Bookends is a pieced panel quilt pattern from Mountainpeek Creations™, designed by Kari Nichols and inspired by Holly's Quilt Cabin. A center panel or theme fabric is flanked by "bookend" columns cut from four fat eighths, with top and bottom accent fabric, sashing and an inner and outer border. Three sizes are charted so the pattern fits three common panel depths.
Finished sizes
- 54½" x 64½" — for a 22½" x 40½" panel
- 54½" x 70½" — for a 28½" x 40½" panel
- 54½" x 76½" — for a 34½" x 40½" panel
Panel required
A center panel or theme fabric is needed. If your panel does not fit the exact vertical measurement, the vertical cut can be adjusted without affecting the rest of the design — use the higher yardages if adjusting larger.
Fabric requirements
- Center panel or theme fabric — ⅔ yd, ⅞ yd or 1 yd by size (1⅙ yds if directional along the length of fabric)
- Top and bottom center accent, all sizes — ⅝ yd
- Sashing, all sizes — ½ yd
- Bookends, all sizes — (4) fat eighths; directional fabric may require fat quarters
- Inner border — ½ to ⅝ yd, outer border — 1⅛ to 1¼ yds
- Binding — ⅝ yd, backing — 3½ to 4⅔ yds
- Twin size batting, all sizes
